Balancing School, Athletics, and Spirituality: By Delaney Miller

Balancing academics, athletics, and spirituality in college can be a challenging endeavor. However, with intentionality and discipline, it is possible to excel in all three areas while maintaining a sense of peace and purpose.

First and foremost, time management is crucial. As a college athlete, I often have rigorous schedules filled with practices, meets, and travel, leaving little room for error in managing my time. Creating a detailed weekly plan that includes study times, practice sessions, and set aside time with Christ has helped me ensure that nothing is neglected. I find that using tools like planners, digital calendars, and time management apps are beneficial in staying organized.

Integrating spirituality into my daily routine is essential for maintaining balance. This can be as simple as starting the day with a short prayer or meditation, participating in a Bible study group, or attending weekly worship services. For me, spirituality provides a foundation that offers strength and guidance through the pressures of college life. I often listen to worship music in my commute or during breaks in my day.

Additionally, building a supportive community is vital. Surrounding myself with like-minded individuals who share similar values and goals provides encouragement and accountability. My college has faith-based student organizations and campus ministries where I have found fellowship and support.

I remember to prioritize self-care. Balancing multiple responsibilities can be draining, so it’s important to listen to my body and mind. Adequate rest, proper nutrition, and regular physical activity are necessary to sustain high performance in academics and sports.
